By Lynn Reynolds, writer: longtime EastEnder, sometime Bermondseyite.
Stepping into The Gun is what entering the TARDIS must be like. The pub’s modest facade in a residential street gives way to room upon delightful room, culminating in a terrace with spectacular views over the Thames and the O2.
For anyone who loves good food in convivial surroundings, The Gun has it all: elegant white tablecloths, real fires, a display of antique guns on the wall, and accomplished modern British cuisine. No wonder it’s always packed.
I’m a creature of habit, so I usually choose some of their ultra-fresh seafood (sprats, oysters, crab) as a starter, followed by roast belly pork. The pork comes with outstanding duck fat roast potatoes and a range of other wondrous accompaniments.
You won’t be surprised to hear that I never have any room for dessert.
